hello all,
I'm experiencing the so called "I've got a G5 DP 2.0" hype
I'm so glad! it's my fifth mac and it was a jump from a PM G4 400 AGP...
Let me tell you that just opening the box was worth it!, the style!, everything in its place...
When I plugged the "beast", the speed is incredible, although I only really notice the speed increase when opening programs, working, etc, because compared to my old G4, it's not that fast when opening windows, and small system stuff (incredible, hein?)
The G5 came with the Radeon 9600 XT, and it still has the factory 512 MB of RAM, which I'll upgrade with another 1GB soon...
The funny thing (and after reading some of the threads about it in this forum), is that system profiler tells me that the processors are the old ones (powerpc g5 2,2), and some other programs tell me that they are the 2,3...
I've checked the serial number, and the factory date is Feb!
Nevermind, it's a great buy!
BTW, it's heavy as hell, and when the fans fire-up, looks like a vacuum cleaner
fortunately I haven't got the fan franzy with 10.3.8

Grats!
One hint though - get more ram... fast!
I recently got a 2.5 Dual and ran it for one day with the factory 512MB, it was quite disturbing since my 17" Rev C Powebook with 1GB RAM seemed to run circles around the new G5.
I just threw in 4GB of Samsung RAM, and MAN! This thing flies. Love it.

I know that, I wrote already that I'll get an extra 1GB of RAM, obviously I would prefer to have more 4 GB as you did

Evidence shows Apple is using a mix of 970 and 970FX currently.
One way to tell for sure is to issue the following command in terminal
ioreg -l | grep 'cpu-version'
"cpu-version" = <00390202> (970)
"cpu-version" = <003c0300> (970FX)
If you have two processors you will see two lines (one for each)

that's true, but some apps tell me that I have the powerPC 7,3 and not the 7,2...
