hi all, quick question for the collective here... i recently acquired a used rev.A G5 1.6GHz tower to tide me over until the next round of Powermacs finally are announced and start shipping. the machine currently has 2 x 128MB DDR333 and 2 x 512MB DDR333 installed.
now, i'd like to upgrade the ram, preferably w/ two sticks of 512MB so i can get the total up to 2GB, which would suit my needs w/ this box fine... but, i *really* hate the idea of investing any money at all in DDR333 modules, and would greatly prefer to buy DDR400 modules instead so they can recycled into more modern machines in the future... can anyone tell me whether i should be able to get away w/ 2 x DDR333 mixed w/ 2 x DDR400? on many Wintel/AMD-based systems i have worked w/ in the past this wouldn't be a problem, as the faster memory would just drop back to the speed of the slower automatically. i have no idea if this is the case w/ a Powermac though...
total crap shoot? anyone venture a guess or know for sure? thx in advance for any input all..!

DDR400 will work fine, assuming it's of good quality.

From what I hear, G5s use very loose timings, so CAS3 would probably be appropriate.

Do be careful that you buy memory that is verified to work in the G5...
I have two sticks of perfectly good 256MB Corsair XMS low-latency PC3200 RAM that I've pulled from my PC (upgraded its memory, so these are unused). They work fine at 2-2-2-5 @ 400MHz in my Barton 3200+ box. Trouble is, these sticks don't have any SPD codes for CAS 3 timings written to them, so they are not recognized at all by the G5. The slots are listed as empty in the Apple System Profiler. Bummer.
