Hi,

I have 1,950 fonts installed on my eMac. I want to get rid of them and just go back to the default amount of fonts, they amount you have when you do a fresh install of Panther. Here is my problem.

The fonts cause my eMac to boot considerably slower, takes almost 5 minutes to completely boot. Also, they have caused my eMac to be unstable. There are frequent crashes, where I have to restart the computer, and many apps are just extremely sluggish. Crashes happen just out of no where. iTunes works one minute, the next, iTunes crashes, then I have to force quit, and the next thing you know, I cant click anything on the desktop. I see A LOT of the stupid beach ball.

These problems began when I installed the fonts. I can no longer consider my eMac as stable. What I want to do is be able to get back to the default amount of fonts, without having to reinstall the OS, or delete the fonts manually from the fonts folder. I dont remember which ones are the ones I installed.

Any help?
Thanks.

Also, I posted in the Apple Discussions and got no help.

The fonts you installed yourself should be in the Library/Fonts folder in your HOME folder. So you should be safe to give those a delete. The only app I know that'll put fonts there is Office and you can reinstall that if that's an issue. None of your system's fonts should be damaged in any way by this.

You can also use FontBook in Mac OS X 10.3. That's a good tool to at least disable fonts without deleting them - you can see if disabling them improved performance at all.
