I ordered a 1.42 Mac Mini with the superdrive from MacMall on 2/15/2005 and it still hasn't arrived.... I also ordered an airport extreme card at the same time. My question is will the Mac Mini be able to take the APX card, or should I have ordered one of the wireless ready configurations? I've read that a special connector is needed and it doesn't come with the standard Mac Mini configs... What does everybody think?

It doesn't take a standard Airport extreme card. You won't be able to use it. I've heard that Apple stores are going to be installing the AE/BT cards in-store.

i believe it does take the same Airport Extreme card, however if you did not order the mini with either a Bluetooth module or APX module they do not give you the antenna or the daughterboard that the APX & BT plug into. So if you just ordered a stock Mini without either BT or APX no you will not be able to use it.

i just phoned my local reseller about a daughter card and he said it is likely they will sell me the daughter card itself. he told me he'd get back to me with a price and what exactly i need. can any experts give me an estimate on the cost of the card and what exactly i do need other than the airport extreme card.
thanks in advance

All i know is the daughter card is probably going to be much more than what it would normally cost to have the BT & AP added in Built To Order (BTO)

I ordered the Mac Mini before I knew that it needed a daughter card to work, I think it sux that Macmall would allow the APX card to be orderd at the same time without some kind of compatiblity warning....

I think that's more the consumers fault than the vendors. It's like complaining because your friend could burn DVD's with his mini and you thought you could do it with yours too but you only ordered Combo and now your pissed. Consumers should actually take the time to see what do and don't come with any purchase yet alone a Mac. It's unfortunate to hear your situation and if I were you I'd explain it to Mac mall and hopefully they'll let you return the machine at worse case scenario, so that you could order one with APX and BT. Good luck.

Stay far, far away from USB wireless adapters. You will need a driver for it and that's an unneeded complication. Get an ethernet wireless adapter. They don't need drivers and leave your USB port(s) available.

Does anyone know the precise cost of installing Airport Extreme into a Mac mini at an Apple Store?
I'm wondering how much more it will cost to have them install it. It's $71 Educational Discount if I have it from the store. I just don't know whether I should buy it now at the outset or not.

Better cancel that mini order and re-order with the APX installed. Then you'll get the daughter-card. Might as well get BT too, or you may have trouble adding that in the future.

You would be better off just getting the Airport and BT as a BTO option. You would only be spending an additional $20 over the cost of the Airport card alone. After you have Apple or a reseller to install the daughter card and whatever else you need the price will probably go over the additional $20 you spent up front. Cancel your order and go with a BTO from Apple. I don't think you will regret it.
