I dont have my Mini yet, just ordered it yesterday but I would like to upgrade the ram to 1GB once prices come down. I am very experienced with working on and building PCs but I was just wondering if I install a ram chip, will it void the warrantee?

On a side note, when my iPod took a dump I took it apart and planned on replacing the hard drive untill I realized it was under warantee and when I sent it back they didnt say anything about it being opened. Is the Mini similar to that?

Opening up the mini to upgrade the ram will not void the warranty, though Apple prefer you to send it in for the upgrade. This isn't necessary though.

Thanks, I really don't see a need to pay someone $$$ to put a ram chip in

yeah I agree with you there. Where can you buy the Superdrive from? I would definantly be interested in replacing the cd burner with a dvd burner once I get more money saved up.

If I'm not mistaken, the optical drive in the mini is a standard notebook optical drive. Correct me if I'm wrong though.

You can buy a Pioneer SuperDrive for the Mac Mini from this website for 149.00.

That may be true, but a quick Froogle search shows that $149.00 seems to be a good price for that drive.

I was told by an Apple Store employee (retail) that opening a Mini would void the warranty. They are lying to overcharge for a RAM upgrade. That REALLY pisses me off.

Upgrading the RAM will not void the warranty as long as you don't break the plastic clips. Just be gentle.
