I just recieved an Imac from someone. I don't know much about it thats why I am asking you guys. It is an Imac in turqoius and clear casing. The modem went out on it. no problem since i have a wireless network at home, mostly PC granted. How can I determine the processor speed, ram amount and hard drive space and the OS Version? Is there somewhere that I can find this info?
Also, how can I wireless network this mac? I am running a wireless network off of a dsl line. I have two pc's hard wired to it with CAT 5, but am wondering if I can either run CAT 5 to it or should I go wireless. How should I do this. Also how do i delete programs, in windows there is a remove programs menue, but how do i delete, AOL for instance? I am new to this. I used macs back in the early 90's but havent since then, so I am having to learn all over. Thanks.

If you are using Mac OS X, click the little Apple logo at the top-left corner and then select About This Mac. It will tell you the number and version of OS X you are running. There is also a button there (don't remember what it says) that will bring up System Profiler and have full details on everything on the computer.
I can't answer the wireless question for that model iMac, but it has an ethernet port, so you can run Cat5 to it.
Some programs may have an uninstaller in their folder, but for most (like AOL), just drag them to the trash.
Welcome to the Mac!

To find stuff out about your computer just click the Apple menu button (top left) and click about this computer. I don't know if all iMac models support Airport cards but I'm fairly certain the later models do.

hi i am a total newbie to IMAC...
days ago i had to install "MAC_OS_X" to a IMAC(my job requires me to do so) which was previously "MAC OS 9"... and so i just put in the CD and run it. but after then i heard from my user that he wants his data back. i was wondering if the data will still be there or will be deleted(data was store in another 2 harddisk)... after the upgrade of OS. and also... he had 3 harddisk, but after i installed... i can only detect 1 of them. whats most important is i want to know whether the data will be affected... somebody please help me. thanks...

If you had three partitions before and only one now, what probably happened was the OS X install re-partitioned the drive and any data on it before has been lost.

Sounds like you have a rev A or B iMac. If it's running OS 7,8, or 9, then after you click on the apple menu at the top left, click on Apple System Profiler(it should be right below "About This Computer").
-System Profile will give you all of the details about the computer, OS version, ram, networking, etc.
-Devices and Volumes will tell you about the hard drive size and partitions, optical drive, graphics card, and USB info.
You should be able to connect to a wireless network using a wireless bridge, but it might be a pain to get WEP to work with it. If it is an original model; sorry, no Airport card slot.
Congratulations on the new comp, I have pretty much the exact same model. It turns 7 in August and is still going strong.

Probably not. But system restore in Windows will not get your data back from a format/reinstall of the OS. It will only rollback the drivers and such to a "known good configuration".
