I check my Email this morning, to find that the head of the photo department at my college is selling their 6 Mac G4 towers for 400$ apiece.

Now, I've used these computers for image manipulation and whatnot, and for that sort of thing, they are absolutly fantastic... I think it's worth it just as a photoshop/music machine alone.

The specs are:
Dual 500mhz processors
1.25 GB RAM
1 60 GB HD
1 40 GB HD
Airport Wireless Highspeed Internet/Network Card
100 MB Iomega Zip drive
Bus Speed 100 MHz
L2 Cache 2MB
DVD player
External Lacie CD-R/W burner with firewire
ATI Rage 128 AGP graphics card with 16 MB Video Memory
ATI TV & Video Capture Device
Standard G-4 keyboard & mouse
Boston Accoustics 4.1 digital BA 7500 surround sound system with thin profile speakers and 2 types of stands.

So, do you guys think it's worth it? It also comes with a 17'' Studio Monitor, 4x5 Wacom Tablet and a REALLY old Nikon 35mm Film scanner.

Any feedback is appreciated... Like I said, I'm new to Macs. before this, the only mac I had ever used was a Mac Classic back in Gradeschool.

Excellent price I think. Go for it.

Just be sure to upgrade the video card to a Radeon or GeForce so you can take advantage of Quartz Extreme.

Yeah, that's definitely worth the asking price. Usually you can't get them in un-upgraded shape (standard 128 or 256MB RAM, 20GB HDD) for that price, especially with the monitor included.
eMac 1.25GHz | 1.5GB PC2700 | 250GB Maxtor HDD | 8x LiteOn DVD+-RW

Sawtooth 1.5GHz | 1GB PC133 | 120GB Maxtor HDD | 40x CD-RW (external) | 16x DVD-ROM | Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB

A good price indeed. You may want to post one for sale in the marketplace and pick up a few of these. The peripherals although not new are worth a bit by themselves. Also, good call on the video card upgrade otherwise its perfect.

With a price like that I would say definitely go for it. I would grab one up without hesitation. That would make me a perfect server

The monitor alone goes for between $200-$400 and with it being a duel with that much RAM you can't go wrong.
