I'm being given a G3 350 mz Slot Loader. This is the cheaper Blueberry, not the iMac DV, which was graphite, so it has no Firewire port. I need to do a clean install of 10.3 on this machine, and the CD drive is dead. Where can I find an after-market (preferably new, though used will suffice) drive that will fit this machine?

Basically any slot-load notebook drive should work. Many companies sell drives known to be perfect fits.

P.S. The iMac DV came in all 5 colors. It was the iMac DV Special Edition that came only in graphite, and the non-DV iMac came only in blueberry.

Cool. I haven't been able to find much in the way of resellers specifically listing drives for this machine, so I was wary. You're right about the DV-SE. I was going off the apple-History page, and this machine is apparently the Non-DV Blueberry of which you speak. 350 MZ, 6 GB slot-loader, no FW. I should have it in hand tomorrow.

Can these machines boot off of external USB drives? I know it'd be s-l-o-w, but it'd also be free, since I've already got one of those. I could install an OS on the external, boot the iMac from it and clone. That, or pull the HD and put it in a Tower, run the install, then put it back. (just running down the options here)

Durn slot-loading after-market drives are EXPENSIVE!
