I know this is not the MarketPlace forum, but this forum seems to get the most traffic, so I thought I'd throw this out there: I just got an email about a 4 hour sale at CompUsa on Saturday. They are selling qualified products for cost +7% for four hours on Saturday. Apple desktops and notebooks are included. This seems unusual for Apple. In my experience, "sales" like this do not include Apple products. Apple seems to lock down there prices everywhere. Does anyone know what the mark-up or profit margin is on Apple desktops and notebooks? Seems like it would be higher than 7%? Most Windows PC's have very slim profit margins, and although I have no basis for thinking this, I was always under the impression that Apple has a bigger cushion of profit margin. If this is true, there could be some good deals at CompUsa this weekend.

Your thoughts?

Yes, Apple has a great profit margin. Apple's dealers do not. 10% if they're lucky, on the cheapest models it can be under 5%.

Wow. That 4 hr. sale was just incredible. Just look at these fabulous deals I found at my local Compusa.

Mac mini - sale price $496
iMac 20" - sale price $1889

I don't know what I would do with the $3 savings on the Mac mini...

I got a post card in the mail from CompUSA for 10% off any one item (as long as you use the CompUSA credit card). Was able to get a Mac Mini for less than edu pricing

I bought my Mac Mini from powermax.com because they dont have a sales tax and they have a mail in rebate for free shipping, this brough the cost below what it would have been for an edu discount with taxes and shipping and I got it sooner.

I worked at a Best Buy once. They would lose money on some of their laptops (knowing that you would probably buy a printer, USB cable, software, EXTENDED WARANTY, bag, etc. etc. etc.

The sales people would go out of their way NOT to sell the few that lost money, but they did have them.

I stopped buying big ticket items at Best Buy since a sales guy pestered me so much for the extended warrantee that I had to literally walk out of the store without the item to get him to leave me alone about it. His manager chased me into the parking lot and promised that he'd sell me the item without saying another word.

It was the very very last time that I purchased anything over $50 in that store.

I've noticed now that Circuit City has started the same crap. It's a shame since I used to like their store.
