My 20" G5 iMac has been in a local Mac shop (Apple authorized) for over a week waiting for a new power supply. They claim the power supply is backordered and say they have no idea when it will be available. I've been using Macs since 1985 and this is the first hardware problem I've had, but not having parts available for a current model just doesn't sound like Apple's style. Does anyone either know whether or not the power supplies are backordered or if you don't know, maybe how I could find out?

I Googled <iMac 20" power supply> and discovered a thread on another forum indicating that a) mine is not an isolated occurance and b) power supplies are indeed back ordered because there have been so many failures. Sigh. Looks like cramming everything into the display case has caught up with Apple. Not surprised. Not happy.

When I get mine back I intend to make some changes: 1) change CPU setting to lower speed and power and 2) sleep everything on a short time delay (although people who were aggresively sleeping theirs are still reporting failures.
