In a silent room I find the G5 produces a buzzing sort of sound, not just the fan sound... is this normal? I think one of my fans is making the noise... would apple replace it?

What sort of video card do you have installed? My Dual 2.0GHz G5 is usually very quiet, though when the fans rev up, they rev up, but for a very short amount time. Anyway, it may be your video card fan causing the light buzzing sound and not the G5. If it's not that and it bothers you enough, maybe you should have it looked at.

My school has a lab of dual 2ghz G5s and I've noticed a lot of the machines make that buzzing noise, I know exactly what you mean. I don't know if other people just don't hear it, or it's a noise those computers just make, I don't really have much expierence listening to other G5s.

I have the stock 64 MB nvidia, don't think it even has a fan? not that I looked. But the sound seems to come from the top front fan.
And I don't mean the CPU noises, its a constant buzz.

It sounds like the vibrating noise you normally hear from an old PC's power supply

Definitely, can be the power supply. They are known to make a lot of buzzing and "chirping" noises.

I have seen--or heard rather--a number of G5 Powermacs which have one or more noisy fans. There are nine fans in each machine and any of them can have a minor mechanical problem which creates more noise from that particular fan than from a nearby computer with the fans running at the same speed.
In my experience, the PCI slot fan, the drive bay fan and the power supply fans seem to be more prone to making extra noise.

do a search in these forums for CHUD and install the the CHUD program as per the instructions.
Turn off "nap" mode when chud has been installed.
this might be the noise you are talking about. Chud gets rid of it until you restart then you have to Turn off "nap" mode again
