I'm using a mac mini with an iiyama pro vison 454 (HM903DT) 19" CRT. The display was automatically set to 1152 x 864 resolution with 75 Hz refresh rate.
I used to usew this monitor at least 85Hz under Windows XP - I could adjust it all the way to 120Hz under this resoltion in fact!
After using my mac for a little over a week now, I am really noticing the drop in refresh rate - and my eyes are tiring..
All the options (even common mode like 1024 x 768) only have 75Hz to choose from under 'Display preferences' (the others are greyed out).
Please help! Is anyone else using this monitor with a mac?
PS I'm using safari and the 'Instant vB Code' buttons don't seem to do anything. I'm enetering the vB code manually - how do the buttons work?

Sometimes windows would let you change the refresh rate of your monitor higher than what it actually supports. I had this problem. Chances are that your monitor doesn't go above 75 Hz and Windows was the one that screwed up by tricking you. As for your eyes, my guess is that it's the placebo effect.

No, it is true that Mac OS X provides a narrower choice of resolutions and refresh rates. In fact, there is at least one third party (non-freeware) utility that will make these available again. Even OS 9 provided more options than OS X does today. As far as I can tell, the sole reason for this is that Apple is stupid. Don't try to make excuses for them.

Mac OS offers the video modes that the display has told the computer it supports. Windows often ignores this. If Iiyama didn't include your desired video mode in the monitor's programming, then Mac OS won't offer it.

You may be thinking of SwitchRes X. From the site: "Add 85Hz resolutions (or more!) on some badly detected monitors (eg: IIyama, etc.) where the OS only allows you to use 75Hz"
