I am in the market for a new iMac. I will wait for the new ones to come out. I want a dual layer DVD-r. And of course a lot of memory. I just read, that I need two identical DIMM's to use 128-bit data path. Otherwise it will use just 64-bit.
Apple support I just need 128-bit if I use big files. I will use iMovie/iDVD a few times a year and a lot of iPhoto. So, I don't know how much I will need 128-bit. If it is a big problem, I will order an iMAC online and have 512 MB installed with one DIMM and add 512 MB myself. Otherwise, I will buy an iMAC in the store and add 1024 MB myself. What would you do?
Also, I see some extentions to product names when I shop online for memory: Corsair 512MB DDR400 PC3200 Value Select CL2,5 or Corsair 512MB DDR400 PC3200 XMS XLPT CL2. Does anybody know the difference?
BTW if no dual layer DVD-r comes in the next line-up, I will buy a combo iMAC and an external LaCie firewire dual layer DVD-r (maybe with lightscribe).
