So here's the dilemma.
I currently own a Powerbook TiBook 667; I have had it for over 3 years, it has served me well, but now appears to be getting a little long in the tooth. I am tempted to go out and buy Tiger for it, however I am considering purchasing a new machine...
My job requires me to have a Windows laptop, but I prefer to do as much as possible on the Mac as it is easier and more enjoyable - however this is often only email, web browsing, iPhoto, word processing etc. As much I would like the mobility of another Powerbook or iBook I cannot justify it as I already have a laptop.
So I am left with the option of a Mac Mini or an iMac. The price of the iMac is ok but it has a severe limitation that I cannot use it as a monitor for the laptop. In this regards the Mini would be better, however this does suffer from performance limitations - namely processor, hdd and memory.
The memory could obviously be upgraded reasonably. I could replace the HDD with a faster inernal drive or use an external firewire device as the boot drive. However that leaves the processor which is only twice the speed of my 3 year old laptop.
So, do I:
Buy a Mac Mini, upgrade to 1gb RAM and faster internal drive and nice monitor.
Buy a Mac Mini, upgrade to 1gb RAM and fast external firewire HDD and nice monitor.
Buy an iMac and use the the laptop screen.
Consider a second hand PowerMac with decent monitor?
