Hey,

I just got my first mac last month and I upgraded the ram from 256 to 512 yesterday. Now when I start up, the dock loads, but the apple menu bar up top does not. after a about 15 seconds the time, the speaker volume, the screen resolution menu, and the bluetooth icons appear but the white bar across the top is still missing. at this point the beach ball thing is spinning and nothin is happening. i can launch items off the dock, and then the menu will finnaly show up.

is this a result of bad ram, do i need to reset pram? any ideas whats goin on with the finder?

thanks

I would run the Apple Harware Test CD and see if the ram shows up as being bad. I was having a similar problem on my powermac but it wasn't the ram. Updating prebindings and repairing permissions solved my problem. In the end the real culprit was Virex 7.5.1 downloaded form .mac. Did the above after uninstalling it and problem gone.

Anyway, I recommened running the hardware test anytime you do any hardware upgrade on the machine.
- TiBook 867mhz
- Rev. A Dual 2.0ghz PowerMac G5, 3 Gigs Ram, Dual Dell 24" displays.
- Imac G4 20" with 1 Gig of ram

I started having problems with this just before 10.3.9 was released. Upgrade went smoothly and the Mac mini has never been better. If you can get it up and everything passed then software updates are your friend.
