Ok so for the past few months my Dual 1.8 G5 will go to sleep while I am useing it. Right now Its doing it when Im in after effects and rendering or sometimes playing music on itunes!
I will render for only a few secs then it will go to sleep...then i press "escape" button to get it out of it and it will render for a sec then go back until i stop rendering.???
I dont know whats up...
I have the settings so it never! goes to sleep and its locked...

Its bothering me becuase i cannot render my project.

I have 512 RAM and the dual 1.8 G5 and running 10.3.8

thanks guys

First, I'd make sure that you have the G5 plugged into it's own circuit. It has a 600W power supply, and when you ramp up the procs, it will start to draw a lot of current. If there isn't enough juice, funky stuff can start to happen.

Secondly, if it's still doing this after you've determined that it's not the wiring in your home/office, I'd have apple take a look at it.

Let us know how it goes.

Are the fans on high when this happens? If so, you're seeing a thermal runaway.

well i took it apart and it had quite a bit of dust on the inside...so i cleaned it up and changed the saver settings to autmatic for performance and its not running over 150 F and its not shutting off now.
So i hope thats it.

I will check out the power supply though..that could be it.

thanks guys.

That's a good thing to try. Make sure that there is sufficient space in back of the unit for proper air flow.
