Kinda disappointing if true. No dual cores, no pci express......

"Expansion slots will remain unchanged from current models. All models will feature one AGP 8X Pro slot; the low-end, the dual-2.0GHz system will feature and three 33MHz, 64-bit PCI slots, while the mid-range dual-2.3GHz and high-end dual-2.7GHz system will feature one 133MHz 64-bit PCI-X slot and two 100MHz PCI-X slot.

The new Power Mac G5 system will feature neither PCI-X 2.0 nor PCI Express slots. Both technologies represent, at least for the short term, the future of expansion slot technologies. PCI Express in particular is especially suited for audio and video applications, and graphics card developers such as NVIDIA already offer a number of high-end PCI Express solutions.

Sources have also indicated that the speed-bumped Power Mac G5 system will not feature SuperDrives with Blu-Ray support, and currently indications suggest that the towers will continue to use the single-core PowerPC 970FX processor.

The numbers make it apparent that the forthcoming Power Mac G5 update will represent just an evolutionary bump. This alone explains why Apple opted not to show off the new systems at its NAB press event Sunday night, which saw the introduction of Final Cut Pro 5, DVD Studio Pro 4, Motion 2, Soundtrack Pro, and Shake 4. The updated Power Mac G5 systems, along with eMacs and iMac G5s, remain slated for some time within the next two weeks."

I wonder why IBM is having such a problem getting dual core G5 out. Wasn't the Power4 pretty much dual core to begin with?

Hmmm. I wonder if perhaps something bigger is coming up soon, although that would make one wonder why they even bother with a small update now. Here's to hoping Thinksecret finally got something wrong! Although in this case it looks rather definite. Would dual cores be too hot/power-hungry? I haven't looked at the specs of the chip, but I thought that this wasn't really an issue. Very bizarre.

According to the leaked IBM document, the 970MP are hot processors that require dedicated on-chip hardware to monitor temperature. It should very well be that IBM has hit once again the heat wall.

A couple things...

First I have a hard time imagining that the line up is that bad. I don't think Apple can claim that 10 months of work on the PM have only netted a couple hundred MHz speed bump and an increase on HDD and RAM.

My guess is that Apple has declared all out war on ThinkSecret, purposefully dumping rumors of really bad PMs. Rumors come out, people read them, and then better machines come out and everyone is relieved.

I'm going to discount these rumors.

Or ThinkSecret has decided to use their recent good history of predictions to make apple look bad. Just look at the AppleInsider forums to see how many people automatically believe them now. I think they're just making it up because they're getting sued. Heh

I believe ThinkSecret is right, though they did not give any info as what the prices will be. I'm guessing that Apple will drop its prices on the PowerMac significantly to attract users to but them.

I still think that the models are in the wrong order, that it's the 2.3 GHz model that is the dual-core dual-chip high-end model.

Apple would have to chop 500 bucks off the PowerMacs if these are accurate specs. there is no other way that this is gonna fly. I can't wait to see what TheINQ has to say about it if these updates turn out to be true.

Yeah, the fake rumor thing is somethign I had been thinking about for a while myself. I would be a little surprised if Thinksecret was doing it out of spite, and more expect it to be a bad leak, possibly done on purpose by Apple, or maybe some rumor that went out of hand somehow. Anyway, I think right now we can just wait and see what happens. I won't be convinced until I see the macs. Even then, if they turn out this bad, I wouldn't be surprised to something more coming soon. It just doesn't seem possible that they haven't even gained a ghz since the G5's first came out.

Also, the powermacs didn't come out after all at the expected time, right? So despite Thinksecret's excuse that they didn't want to embarass themselves, chances are the rumor is fake.
