I recently bought an Imac with a Pioneer DVR-K04F superdrive in it. I have been unable to find any specs on it anywhere. Does anyone know anything about this drive? Thank you!

The "F" at the end must be a designation that it is intended for OEM buyers, possibly signifying that certain features have been disabled through a modified firmware.

Yeah I believe this is an older model and you will need a firmware upgrade available from pioneer's website to get it working "happily".

The latest model, which I just purchased, is the 109. I believe with the 104 out of the box, it is a little picky with dvd media and you might make a few coasters. With the right brands though, it should be fine.
MacBook Alu, 13", 2.4Ghz, 4GB RAM, 256MB video
G5 Imac, 17", 1.9Ghz, 1.5GB RAM, 128MB video, built in isight, airport and bluetooth
Indigo iBook, 366mhz; 320MB RAM; CD; FW; Airport

I went to Pioneer's website but did not see a firmware upgrade. Can't figure why I am missing it

Teerexx52, I hate to butt in, but how recently did you buy your iMac G5? I ask because I'm trying to determine the SuperDrive model of the iMac G5 so I can upgrade.

Just trying to confirm that the DVR-K04 will work in my JUST-PURCHASED (4/21/2005) iMac G5 17" Combo Drive.

Like I mentioned I just purchased mine 4/21/2005, so it's the same version of the iMac for sure (although mine is a refurbished unit). Thanks for the info.

Now I wonder if I should wait a bit until Pioneer releases a 16x DVD burner that would be compatible.

Does yours have the same burner as mine? You can always wait and there will always be something more. I like the 20" I have very much. Gonna be happy no matter what they release next week or whenever

I just bought a 17" Combo-drive model. Having just learned that many iMac G5 parts are user-replaceable, I thought I'd see how much it would cost to upgrade to a SuperDrive in a few months or so.

I just visited Other World Computing for the first time and they actually market a whole bunch of after market upgrades and replacement parts including an iMac G5 SuperDrive for $180. Now, I might be able to buy a comparable part a bit cheaper elsewhere, but it's tempting because they'll give you cash for your original drive ($39 for the original iMac G5 combo drive.).

teerexx52, is your recently purchased 20" iMac a G4 or a G5?
