I search the forums and could not find this particular issue. I have a G3 333 biege minitower, a pair of 2 port USB cards, 640 MB Ram, the original 4 gig hard drive, and a 20 gig Western Digital. I had 10.2 installed along with 9.2.2 (I had to use xpostfacto because X would not install).
When I booted up yesterday, I got a login window, which is strange because I have it set to auto login. I noticed that the User to log in is "Other". Also strange because I have no "Other" account. I could not log in so I tried 9.2 and tried to find the Admin account that I use. It looked like it was there, but when I select some folders, I get a system message that the drive has errors and should be checked.
When I use Disk First Aid, it stops and gives a message that I have Invalid Node structure and it cannot be repaired. I then try Nortons (yeah, I know, but it was free), and it halts, says there is an error in a leaf record (record has the incorrect key). It also will not repair the disk.
Has anyone else ever experienced this? What did you do? Or what would you recommend?

Thanks.

You need a utility that can fix the drive, like DiskWarrior or TechTool Pro. Otherwise, you can create a new account, copy your stuff across, then delete the old account. That probably won't fix the drive, but it might delete enough of the damage to allow Disk First Aid to fix it.

If the above options don't work for you, your only option would be to wipe the drive, after backing everything up.

Note: the 'Other' option lets you reach the text username / pass login options. Usually used to log in as the root user, or into text-console mode. I think you are getting it because your regular account is glitched, and you don't have any other regular accounts defined.

Thanks for the reply. I was dreading having to wipe the drive, but that appears to be the path I'm headed. I tried logging into the Other account, but it won't let me. Thanks again.

I just came across this thread and wanted to let you know that Disk Warrior saved me from having to wipe my iBook's drive after a bad crash in OS 9; the drive has been running just fine ever since.
