I'll stick the DVD in the drive and wait for toast, but the drive keeps spinning and the DVD never shows up. Eventually the computer just ejects it.

For the record, the DVD is a DYNEX 8X DVD+R, and I am not quite sure what my drive is, or how to check it. I tried looking at the system profiler but it was not there. Any suggestions?

I'm having the same issue. Dynex DVD+R 8X discs and a Powerbook w/ Superdrive. The discs spin up and get spit out. This is the first time I've had problems with dvd discs. Any suggestions?

Since nobody has yet seen fit to explain, I'll give the simple answer.

The 800Mhz iMac shipped with a drive that will only read DVD-R/-RW disks. You probably have a Pioneer 104 or possibly a 105 drive, some units may have shipped with Sonys.

Check your drive type by going to:

About this Mac/More Info/Hardware/ATA

You'll need to buy an external drive to read your +R/+RW disks.
