Kinda sad. Think the bigger news today is the price drop on Apple Displays.

Now I can config a dual 2 with 23" display under 4K. It woulda been nice if it were dual 2.3 though. The credit card would've flew out of my wallet if I can get top o' line G5+23" display for 4K.

What were the 23" priced...$1800? Couldn't have been $2000.

Completely agree. Dropping the 20 inch to $800 means I can probably get one.

The drool factor on the 30" is pretty high. But no price cut, rats! It sure is hard to wrap my brain around $3000 for the monitor though.

Can you double the 30" display as an HDTV? That may make it worthwhile.

nope.

my hope is that we might see a price drop at wwdc prob not till much later though...

I spend some time with one at an apple store last week. I absoulty think it would increase your productivity... its was just nice having everything open and in front of you...

and although this does not help us, its actually a decent price for its size...

I was really considering a ugh.....Dell display until today. Now that the 20" Apple display came down in price my mind has been made up.

That was a close one

Just saw Dell's 2005FPW 20.1" LCD display for $500. If I were considering 20" as my primary monitor, I would pick Apple 20" without a second thought. As a 2nd monitor (me like two monitor setup ), Apple'll need to drop the 20" another $100 to make it worth my effort of pasting the white Apple sticker on top of the DELL logo.

Must agree. Screen real estate is where its at.

Hmmm...$3K for one 30"...$3K for two 23"...the hamster is rattling furiously...

yes.

I am now under the belief that a person will be more productive with 1 large than 2 smallers...

i just went from 3 20lcds down to 1 lcd and even though there is much less realesate i am not twisting my neck back and forth all day... and a 30" would solve the real estate problem

Right now I'm actually running a Dell CRT I got off Craigslist for $45. I was thinking of the Dell LCD monitors as well, but I'd rather line Apple's pockets than Dell's. What's the image quality like on the Dell?

Oi. This is price drop has created much turmoil here

I was thinking of getting two Viewsonic 17" displays for about $500 (including tax & shipping). But, now with this price drop and the discount a friend that works at Apple can get me, I can get the Apple 20" for about $740 (including tax). It's still a $200 difference, but the Viewsonics are refurbs and not to mention the Apple display is quite nice.

What to do, what to do?

Not too shabby on the more expensive models. And sometimes you can get them at pretty good prices with coupons and such deals.

Same here. That trash-talking Michael Dell annoyed me to this day. That's why I would pay extra $$ so as not buy Dell. But the word is that they use the same LCD panels. For me, this plus the $300 differential would be enough sway my integrity. Of course, only as a second monitor .

tummy Guy and others:

look into the samsung monitors themselves. I did and got two: 24 and 21. they were about $100 cheaper than apple, same or close to same specs and each had a $100 rebate at the time.

they also guarantee no dead pixels for either 6 m or maybe a year. apples gets there from them and does not mention dead pixels. the samsung are also 1" larger, but same # pixels

Im very happy with mine. it would have killed to get the 24" and had dead pixels in the center. had massive trouble with apple on a 22" a long tme ago for my father.

just a thought look into it. theblack color is actucally very nice, mine rotate for 10.4 , but there are two cables: dvi and power.

but I got over that.

just to add to the discussion.

Thanks for the info. Two questions: what models did you get and where did you buy them exactly?

I got the monitors locally at Frys electronics. they have a 30 day no question return so thats what initially got me interseted in getting a no dead pixel model. the day I got them samsung announced the either 6m or 1y no dead pixel return policy.

go to the samsung site and look them over. sams model numbers are somewhat confusing

I have: syncMaster 243t and syncMaster 213t

there seem to be some models that to not tilt ( no 't') that are cheaper, but these may only be smaller sized.

they also have a giagunda 32 or 34 " model same price +/- as apples 30"

as I said Im very very happy with them. the $100 rebate seems to have expired, but will probably come around again.

I was going to get newe monitors with a future G5 but Im glad I did it this way.

frys has the outpost.com for your viewing pleasure.
again good luck and let me know what you think.
great tummies too!

Get three 20" displays and still save money instead of buying the 30" screen.

Note: call ATI and/or NVIDIA and ask for a video card that can run three displays )

I'm in the market for the 30" ACD. I had heard rumors of a pending price cut for displays and had hoped the 30" would be included. Guess not. How typical of the universe... always against me.

Getting two 23" ACD now at the same price as a 30" ACD is tempting. But, with the problems of the 23" and no admission by Apple of the problems, forget it.
I went to the Apple Store and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.

Thanks again for the info. I'm looking at my options at the moment, though I'm in no hurry to decide which to get. Most likely I'll make a choice by this weekend.

I'm just bitter because I got mine a month ago, and now they're cheaper. Oh well.

Yes, you get more screen real estate with 2 23"ers, but 2 23's take up more desk real estate as well. A 30" display is awesome, and for me, I find it more pleasing to use than dual displays.

Then there is the whole Doom 3 on a 30" display thing...

true on the desk real estate.

Don't know about doom. bet it looks good on the 24"

and Two monitors is very impressive, like some sort of financial magnate with a Bloomberg or what ever.

everyone should look at the samsungs themselves and decide

but if there are issues with the apple 22-23 id like to hear about them, for completeness sake.

$1299 educational discount price for the 23". Not bad at all. Now if only I could be assured a non-pink, non-yellowed, evenly backlit display, I'd consider getting one.

Looks like the Samsung's are about $100 less than Apple's new prices, before any rebates.
