B&W, Panther and an NEC 3500 DVD-r

So I put an NEC 3500 DVD-R drive in my B&W G3 running Panther and I can't use it as a burner. Is this thing not supported by Panther? Or Mac for that matter?

Have you tried to burn using Toast? It may not be a supported drive burning through the finder or with the iLife apps. Try the program called PatchBurn. It might solve your problem. Here is a link:

Check out the device compatibility lists over at xlr8yourmac.com . You may have to give PatchBurn a shot.
