hello

this might be burried in other posts but I couldn't find it.

what are the DL drives in the new G5's? pioneer 108's? others? Varies?

I assume they are not the pioneer 109's due to the need for patchburn in Tiger?

thanks rotuts

It apears that they are teh Pioneer 109's. Can be had over at NewEgg for around $55.
- TiBook 867mhz
- Rev. A Dual 2.0ghz PowerMac G5, 3 Gigs Ram, Dual Dell 24" displays.
- Imac G4 20" with 1 Gig of ram

perhaps
Im guessing they might be Pioneer 108's as the 109s need a program called PatchBurn to get them to work.

the reason I ask, is that the BTO gives y0u $100 back ( less) with the CD-RW installed, then you get the 109 from new egg for ~$50 delivered and save 50 $ and have a faster drive.

anyone looking at this thread had the new G5 in there hot little hands to look this up?

System Profiler in new dual 2.0 reports that the drive is a Pioneer 109.

thanks PB Im asuming you have the new 2.0? why then do you need a patchburn for the 109 in tiger? other links seem to suggest Tiger does not support (yet) the 109.

interestingly mysteriouus.

thanks again PB

its still a little curious re Tiger as I thought that the only thing PatchBurn did was modify burners for Apple OS. maybe PatchBurn Tiger is for other burners not then the 109.

its been my experience that in the near or far futures there will be firmware updated either from Pioneer or hacks that fix up their drives for region and speed of media.

So, I guess they just put whatever in?
I supposed they do the same with hard disks.
