I have an iMac G5 20" that I bought four months ago and it was been working fine. This morning while working in Excel, I noticed a thin red line, one pixel wide, extending from the top of the screen to the bottom about 2 inches from the left of the screen. I tried rebooting and nothing has caused it to go away. I guess I'll have to use the Applecare warranty a lot earlier than I anticipated. Anyone else had a similar dispaly problem? I'm a bit ticked that I'm having this quality control problem so early on.guitarmann@elp.rr.com

This happened to my PowerBook. It's a hardware problem, requiring a replacement LCD. Smart move getting AppleCare (I dumbly didn't), as LCD replacements are, um, Not Cheap. Hope your turnaround time's quick..

you don't need applecare to get it replaced under warranty in the first year right ?

Just phoned my local apple store.

* The only difference in hardware warranty in the first year is that with applecare you may get "at home" service dependant upon your proximity to the service place.

* you can buy applecare at the end of you first year if you prefer.
