I'm getting a G5 2.0 iMac 20" and I'm wondering what the RAM timings are.

I want to add a 1 GB stick of RAM and the cheapest name brand RAM I can find is Samsung PC3200 CAS3. I suspect it will be fine even if Apple ships with CAS2.5 RAM, but I just wanted to ask to make sure. In the meantime I'll look around to see if any inexpensive CAS2.5 1 GB RAM sticks exist.

I'm kind of new to this RAM-lingo. What exactly happens if you use the different timings (2.5 versus 3)?

Also, would there be any noticable difference between 1.5 GB and 2 GB of RAM on a new iMac?

Thanks in advance.

Check out Newegg.com, they have some Corsair ValueSelect pc3200 400 mhz cas3 1 gig sticks of ram for only $95. Great deal on quality ram with lifetime warranty. Works just great in my PowerMac G5 2.0 and also works great in my iMac G5 1.8
PowerMac G5 - 2.0 4 1/2 Gig Ram - Tiger 10.4.2
30" Apple Monitor - LaCie d2 Tripple 320 Gig
iMac G5 1.8 1 1/2 Gig Ram 20" - Tiger 10.4.2
Amd64 - Gamer - Water cooled

It will probably work, but at the cas3 rate

You probably won't see the difference, but yes things will work a bit better. The Mac caches things so it can always use more ram. If you were into some heavy video editing then you might see a little faster compile time. But you won't see difference in 1 1/2 to 2 like you will from 256 to 1, now there is a difference you can see... At 256 when running multiple programs you will see lags and jerkeness where at 1 gig they are gone and it's smooth.
