iMac G4 won't install Tiger

I'm trying to install Tiger on my mom's iMac G4, the install disk was used on my powerbook so I know it is not the issue....as soon as I put the DVD in it spins and then shoots it back out at me...
anyone have any ideas?
iMac g4 17"
800MHz
768MB RAM
Combo Drive (CD-RW, DVD-ROM)
currently running 10.3.9

I don't have the answer to your question, but try to put some other DVD in there and see if it does the same thing. I have the same imac as yours except super drive. It installed tiger just fine. Good luck. keep us updated on the issue

Sounds to me like it has a bad optical drive.

yea odd...a normal DVD works just fine just not Tiger or iLife

I have the same problem: bought a new iMac G with Tiger and am trying to install it on my iMac G4/800. After the restart I get the message "This system cannot be installed on this computer". Neither can I boot from the Install DVD. I fixed permissions with the standard disk utility, but it still won't work ...

This won't fix your problem, but it's a potential solution:
Connect your Powerbook to your mom's iMac and have the iMac be in Target disk mode. Then, load the Tiger install DVD in your Powerbook and install Tiger onto the iMac's hard drive.

The disk is most likely a G5 iMac specific disk.
Also, it isn't legal to install the same software on multiple systems without multiple licenses.

You can't use your powerbook install disk to install Tiger on another machine. You need the retail version.
