I'm just wondering if Isee a significant increase if I move to G5 iMac. I'm doing a lot of digital photograghy with almost 23000 pictures in iPhoto and doing a lot video compression with popcorn and sometimes video editing with iMovie and IDVD.
I'm not planning to buy another powermac since I don't upgrade much except for the ram
Thanks in advance.

I don't think you'll see a big enough performance increase to justify buying a new computer. You'd have to go to at least a dual processor G5 to notice a decent increase in speed, mainly because you own a dual G4 already. If you have a dual now, stick with multiple processors and consider a PowerMac upgrade instead of an iMac upgrade.

I considered the same thing. Instead I invested in a flashed Radeon 9800 Pro to replace the stock 9000. iMovie and iPhoto run perfectly fine on my dual 1.25 MDD anyways. Recompressing DVDs will certainly go faster on a G5, but I think I'd rather have the dual G4 over a single G5 since I juggle a lot of apps. My next upgrade will probably be a dual core PowerMac G5 next year or a PowerBook G5, whichever comes first.

Thanks for the info.

I just visited the Other world computing website and looking for a graphics card upgrade. The ATI 9600 is only $ 109.00 but the ADC port is not powered what does it mean. Will my apple cinema display work.
The ATI 9800 is dual DVI and I have to spend extra to buy another cord.

"The ATI 9600 is only $ 109.00 but the ADC port is not powered what does it mean?"

ADC provides signal and power in a single connector. The 9600 mentioned at OWC was intended for G5s and was hacked to get it to work in a G4. But because of some differences between the G4 and G5, there is no power for the ADC connection.

This would only adversely effect you if you use an ADC monitor. VGA/DVI connections should work without any problem.
