The thing i noticed is that the new powermac G5 top of the line model 2.7ghz comes with an ATI Radeon 9650 and the old model came with an ATI Radeon 9800...

Makes no sense to me why they would downgrade the card in the new models? The 9800 is better than the 9650 correct?

Yes, but the 9650 is cheaper, so it can keep the cost down a bit.
- iMac 3.2Ghz 1TB - MacBook Pro 15" Core i7 2.3Ghz / 256SSD (Work laptop)
- PowerMac G5 - Dual 2.0 Ghz, 3GB, Soundsticks!,

didn't we previously have an X800 option too ?

odd how this 'upgrade' looks more of a 'downgrade'

The X800 was not a BTO option.

9800 doesn't have the dual link TDMS but could if it did, the 9600XT and 9650 are pretty much identical except for a few minor details (9650 has Dual Link DVI and DVI, the 9600XT has ADC and DVI) -- note that one.

It is crazy that with the new upgrades you can't BTO a X800XT. I know they wanted to keep the cost down on the pre-built models but come on the X800XT runs circles around the 9800XT.

You can't even get the 9800 BTO anymore, either.

Yes, the 9650 supports both.

Edit: So does the X800XT

well would the x800xt make a big difference over the 9650 if all i use my computer for mostly is graphic designs, (adobe creative suite 2)?

Or would it be a waste to get the x800 xt? Isnt that card more geared for gamers and ppl who do 3D work? please help...

Yeah the X800XT would even be beneficial to a graphic design artist. The Core Image technology and graphic acceleration would benefit.

It would be a waste of money to buy an x800 for the listed use.
