I'm a soon to be Mac convert from the PC world, however, I'm a silence freak. My main current systems is a P4 3.06 in an Antec Sonata case.

I have all 120mm fans, a Zalman cooler (monster), etc...

I have spent quite a bit of money making the thing as close to silent (impossible with fan cooling) as possible. It's now down to a tolerable level, can't really hear it if iTunes is playing even at minimal volume or there is decent ambient noise from converstation, etc... It's really just a whisper even when the room is quiet.

Just curious on how the PM 2.0's are? I can't really tell when I visit the Apple store for obvious reasons.

While I can't compare with your PC's case, the new new DP 2.0's are probably the quietest of the bunch, particularly if you stick with a passively-cooled video card.

My DP2.0 is RevB, not new new, but it is nearly silent. It sits 30cm from my head on the desk, and I hear a whisper when it is quite in the room. With iTunes or any music in the background, I don't even know if its running... then again that is my machine... Good hunting!
