Real Xbox 360s are showing up at preview events now. Look at what they have in them:

Custom IBM PowerPC-based CPU
- 3 symmetrical cores at 3.2 GHz each
- 2 hardware threads per core
- 1 VMX-128 vector unit per core
- 1 MB L2 cache

Now, is there any reason we can't get some PowerMacs with dual 3-core PPCs? IBM's making the chips already!

I wouldn't want these chips in a Power Mac. Just because they're PowerPC doesn't mean they're G5s. There are a million PowerPC variants out there, and very few of them can rival the G5 clock for clock. This is not one of them.

If this *isn't* the PPE core from CELL (or at least very closely related) I'll be deeply surprised.

I kind of doubt there's much related to Cell in there, since the Cell architecture is hugely different (even if it uses PPC technology).

Hm, if that were a bet, I would take it. My guess is that this 3-core processor screams.

Don't know yet, it is *supposed* to ship to me tomorrow according to ExperCom.

I'm definitely stoked though. Though, I'm not sure which I'm more giddy over: The iMac itself or the AirPort Express I got with it.

The PPE is straight PowerPC, the SPEs use a specialized vector ISA. Is that what you meant?
