Looking at buying a Dell (blech!) 2005FPW LCD to go along with my iMac. I've already hacked the firmware and it works so I'm not stuck with just mirrored displays. Was wondering if the A/V output of the iMac will display 1680x1050 (native 20" iMac resolution)?

Also, will video performance be affected by running another monitor at such a resolution?

As it comes from Apple, the Imac G5, (and all other consumer Macs) only support mirroring of the main display. However, with Screen Spanning Doctor you can unlock all the resolutions that the video card and monitor are capable of... ..But you already know that You shouldn't see much of a slowdown at all under most conditions, at least that has been my experience.
