1. Do you need an existing Macintosh to use the new MacMini?
2. Does it run well and how fast is it?
3. Can you network a Macintosh computer with a Windows Computer?
4. Would you reccomend the MacMini?

Answers:-
1. No - the Mac Mini is a Macintosh but you will need a keyboard, mouse and display to go with it (maybe I have misunderstood your question)
2. Probably - best with at least 512MB or more of RAM but depends on what your perception of 'fast' is - got an Apple store near you? - go and see if you can try one.
3. Yes
4. Depends what you do......

can you use any monitor for the MacMini or does one have to use the monitors advertised on the Apple Website?

Any VGA (the standard connection for most monitors) or DVI monitor will work with the mini.

I have used my mother's Mac Mini on several occasions (1.42Ghz combo drive 512MB RAM) and can say that it is plenty fast for day to day computing such as websurfing, e-mail, and microsoft office. My mother has her Mini connected to a 17" Samsung LCD via VGA and it looks great. I would recommend 1GB of memory if you can swing it. The small size is very cool and it does what 95% of computer users ask of a computer. It is not a gaming machine, or a heavy duty video/photoshop machine by any means. Hope that info helps.
