My dad's mini won't start up, and I don't know what to do!!
All that happends when i try to start it, is that the white screen with the Apple and the spinning circle comes up.
And it just keeps on spinning forever! nothing happends
What can i do?

i did, ran Apple Hardware Test, but it didn't find anything wrong.
I just got Tiger so i tried to install it over the old panther install, but that didn't work either.
Halfway through it stopped and asked me to rebbot and try re-installing.
I tried to install tiger 3 times this way, before i just gave up, formatted the drive and did a clean install.
Luckily i ran a full backup to DVD's just a week ago, so they haven't lost much..
I also connected the mini to my iBook in transfer mode and copied the Users folder to a firewire drive.
So, I've got pretty much everything backed up.
What's really annoying though, is that i don't know the cause of the crash.
How do I know the same thing won't happen again in a week?
frustrating...
PS! Thank you Apple for "Backup" - it trully is a brilliant app:-)

Have him call Apple, they should be able to get him going.

it's now more than 90 days since he bought the mini, and i don't want to pay for the support.
i did a clean install and used my 1-week-old backup to re-install stuff.
What i would like to know, is what the cause of the problem was.
but i guess it'll remain a mystery.. could it have been a virus?
I had just installed virtual pc.
could an apple machine be affected by a windows virus in virtual pc?

No and no. Did your Dad mess around with anything before it went bad? Is he very computer savvy?

My sister was downloading some stuff from Limewire, and then it went bad.
My dad doesn't mess around that much, neither does my sisters..
They just send e-mails, listen to music, chat MSN and surf the internet.

It may not have been a virus but limewire is a horrible app. Slap your sister's hands. Then create a managed profile for her. Will save lots of headaches.
