I know this is probably a stupid question, but I hope someone here can answer it. I heard about an emulation software on Macs that allows you to use windows software, and I want to play the Sims 2 on my soon-to-be imac. Is that at all possible? Or do I need to buy the Mac version?

Get the Sims 2 for Mac. You'll be wasting your time with emulation and 128mb vram will run the game smoothly.

Playing any game using a simulator is going to slow things down. You might find a game now and then that will run decently enough to play, but on the whole you will need a Mac version for good results.
