Hi !

Which one is better for the Mac Mini?

Using DVI to Video cable to connect to composite

or

VGA to Video cable to connect to composite.

I hear the Mini has problems with the apple VGA connector, is that also a problem for the VGA to video cable?

Not knowing exactly what you are doing I say DVI since digital is always better than analog. but since you mention composite at the end it may not make a difference at all.

The mac mini only has a DVI output jack. I don't think there's any way you can use a "VGA to video" adaptor, since essentially they just pipe the "video out" through an unused pin.

Link is exactly right -- just buy the only video out adapter Apple sells for the mini.

Sorry, my fault. I was under the impression that the mini had both DVI and VGA out. Looks like VGA out is gotten out of the DVI out.

Why I needed this .....
I am thinking of getting a mini in the living room for using with a 2001 FP Dell monitor I have. It will be connected using the DVI connector. My receiver out will be connected to the composite in of the Monitor (for TV,VCR etc) . I cannot find a way of switching the input between the Mini and Receiver from the couch. I was hoping to connect VGA to composite in on the receiver and use the reciever remote to switch between the Mini and Receiver. This would be an additional path to the Monitor. The composite picture would be very bad, but avaiable by remote for simple things like picking songs to play. For involved stuff I would switch to DVI manually on the monitor.

But looks like it is not possible to do this easily due to the single DVI out.

VGA and component inputs aren't the same thing anyway, and would not work.
