Hi,

Firstly, I'm 99% certain that this problem only started yesterday after hooking up my new 20" ACD as I don't remember it happening before and I do remember seeing all the threads about sleep/wake-up problems and thinking to myself, I'm glad I don't have those issues! Well, today, I do!

Basically, since connecting the ACD my G5 now sort-of crashes on wake up...

I put the G5 to sleep and wiggle my mouse to get it to wake up. The G5 wakes up and I can whizz the mouse pointer all over the screen or leave it sitting there doing nothing (the clock in the menu bar is ticking over) BUT when I launch an app, the icon just bounces forever in the dock but won't start (the clock is still ticking away the seconds in the menu bar). I can't force quit the app becuase I get no keyboard response and if I just leave it sitting there, icon bouncing away, eventually the clock stops ticking and very slowly the fans spin up to full speed. I have to power-off on the front of the mac. I can reproduce this every time.

So far I have tried:

Repairing Priviledges

Resetting the PRAM (3 or 4 times in a row)

Creating a new user account and trying it in this account.

Unplugging the ACD and reverting back to my CRT (problem still persists - which had NEVER happened before!)

And the problem is still there!

Does anyone have any ideas or how to fix it?

Many thanks,

Matthew

Ok,

Found the problem and the cure... (well, I dodn't - i read about it over at macfixit.com)

It is down to my Belkin USB Bluetooth Adaptor. I took it out and everythings fine, plug in back in and it all crashes.

Apparently an issue with 10.4.1.

Hope this helps someone else,

Matthew

Yeah, it looks like your BT adapter needs an updated Tiger driver.

Hi, The adapter seems to work fine under Tiger when being used to transfer to and from my Nokia 6230, so I'm not sure about new drivers. It just makes it hang when waking from sleep.

Over at Macfixit, there are reports that it is also happening to some other USB devices (like hubs, for example).

Who knows
