So we have a bunch of these machines stacked together and we need to figure out which machine is which. Aparently you can do this with IBMs for this exact reason and people here aren't used to working with Xserves. (neither am I, I am not in systems engineering).

Look at the right from the ethernet ports, in the back of the Xserve. You'll see a little plastic button, with a triangle icon next to it. Push it in and it lights up. Take a look at the front of the Xserve and you'll see the yellow LED light up next to the round silver button (to the right of the lock). Also, pressing the round silver button in front makes the light in the back light up.

You can also launch the Server Monitor app on the particular server in question and under the Info tab there is a button that says "System Identifier Light" clicking that causes the light to flash. This is for the Jaguar 10.2 version, but I'd guess that Panther 10.3 and Tiger 10.4 have a similar feature.

This is what I am looking for, do you know if there is something we can do from the command line?

Go here and look for Command-Line Administration. You may find what you're looking for.
