Hi everyone, I currently have a powerbook G4 12inch 1Ghz and am very happy with it. But I'm going to a law school next year that requires a windows based laptop (no virtual PC), so I want to have use my mac as a desktop when I get home. What I can't figure out is if I should just use my current powerbook as a desktop attached to an external monitor or should I change to a mac mini (I already have a great external monitor so an iMac is out of the question.) Would I be gaining anything by changing to the mac mini? To make it have similar specs to my power book (superdrive, etc.) it would be $700-$800.

Thanks for any advice, turnedge

If you sold your PB, you'd go a long way toward buying a mini. A maxed out mini wouldn't be bad.

i personally think it's a better idea to keep the powerbook. my cuz has the 1.4 model mini suped up as best he could and it's really not that much faster on a daily basis than my powerbook. i'd rather invest in more ram and a bigger hd for your powerbook...i have max ram, and now i'm lookin to make a nice external drive so that i essentially will have a mini setup at home.

Normally, I'd agree but since he has to get a pc laptop (I'd switch law schools) and has a good monitor, he can sell the PB and get a maxed mini plus some cash back, most likely plus not having two laptops.

I guess the question is would you use the PB outside your home at all?

Ya Randman, I guess that's a question I haven't figured out (whether or not I'd ever use my PB outside of home). But when I think about it, probably not. The more I think about it, the more tempting the Mac mini is.

The mini can be nice. Just think of it as a monitorless iBook and see if that fits your needs.

totally forgot bout the PC laptop....hmmm....if that's the case then, go for the mini. it has no core image like your powerbook does, but it'll make up for that with the slight speed bump.
