I'm currently on a G4 iMac which I switched to at the end of 2002. Not long after I bought it Apple updated the iMac line which really annoyed me at the time. So now I'm planning to buy a G5 2ghz and 23" cinema display.
I know there's just been a (slightly disappointing) recent update, so it's probably unlikely, but I'm still wondering... do you think Apple will be updating the line fairly soon, maybe at the keynote in June??

Don't worry, at this rate the PowerMac G5 line will never ditch the dual 2ghz machine.

While this is probably likely, I tend to believe that Apple will prepare to update the G5 line as soon as faster processors are available in quantity, especially since the recent update was so weak (and apparently, Apple's only option at the time).

hence the talks with Intel to give IBM a kick up the butt to get their faster processors out quick?

That's what the optimistic part of me, that was saying November, hopes. But the pessimistic part of me says it'll be more like January. After all, the first G5's released on June 2003, the second G5's on June 2004, and the third on April 2005. The trend is looking more like it will be every 9 months to a year. If we assume the June 2004 date was due to a delay, then it's looking like about every 9 months.

I'd like to suggest that Apple might update the PowerMacs at Apple Expo Paris (Sept. 20). It depends, of course, on availability as well as any possible other products that might overshadow the PowerMacs (PowerBook G5s certainly would).
