just ordered a mac mini for my parents anniversary.
got them an imac, 5 years ago.

want to move them from the imac, usb only.

can tiger's migration assistant do usb to usb? or is this a firewire-only function (a la target disk mode)???

The migration assistant uses target disk mode. Regardless, USB was never designed to allow computer-to-computer connections. Such devices and cables have been made, but it's a hack.

Use ethernet to copy it. I'd probably compress the home directory into one zip file, copy it over the network, and then unzip it to the right location.
