Hello,
this is my first message in this forum. I've already tried to find the solution to the problem that I have without success. So this is the problema:
I have an eMac 1GB RAM /60GB HD, ATI graphics, 17" monitor with Tiger 10.4.
My drive is a combo drive (it burns CD without problems and it SHOULD read DVD, but recently it started give me troubles.
Sometimes it reads DVD, sometimes not. I burn DVD with a PC, using DVD-R suppports. Some DVDs are automatically ejected, some non recognized (it asks me to format them), some partially read (some files are correctly read, some with errors).
All these DVD are correctly read with other DVD player.
And my combo drive reads ANY CD (audio, CD-ROM...)
I already tried to clean the lens, but it didn't help me.
What to do in your opinion? Is it a firmware problem or something else? Thanks a lot

Does your combo drive have the same problem reading commerical produced DVDs, such as movies or your Tiger install disc? If not, then it is probably just real sensitive to burned DVDs.

I am an old Apple fan (I have at home Apple computers since 1985) and I've never had so many problems - it's better to say: I've never had ANY problem before).
The most humiliating things are that:
- 95% of commercial DVDs are correctly read
- using Virtual PC 6 installed in the same machine I can read ANY DVD, even those that are not read by the Mac OS X!! Can you imagine? It means that is a software problem, but I don't know where to find the solution.
- In Mac OS X it copies usually 50% of the DVD content, then it gives Error 36. In Windows it's slower but it copies everything.

Okay, my combo drive is sensitive too.
What's the answer?
I've got Tiger on DVD and can't load it.

hello, it happens to me the same, I burn a DVD-R and I can see it the moment, then, when putting it in the unit again, it does not recognize it and it ejects it...
Use the last version of the Toast and his defaults of recording for dvds...
I have Tiger 10.4
