Has anyone used or tried running with a 2GB stick of 3200 memory? I believe a few people with Powermacs have run the 2GB sticks without any problems, but my search turned up no results. Basically I just want to know it it would work alright and would this memory work?

Interesting question... I'm getting a Rev. B iMac G5 soon and at that price I would buy one instead of the the 2 1GB modules I was thinking of buying. Does anybody know the detailed tech specs on what RAM will work?

I'd be hesitant at that price. The cheapest I am seeing 2GB DIMMs from most reputable resellers is around $350.

I do know that memory with heatsinks won't work with the iMac G5. There's no room for them.

That's a pretty good selling price, not sure if I would trust it either.

The max of the iMac G5 is reported to be 2 GB, so there's no point really in having an extra slot, unless I'm completely missing something?

What they're wondering is whether the 2GB limit in the iMacs is based on the practical availability of 2GB memory (or lack thereof), or an actual limitation inherent to the hardware. So, while Apple says the most memory it can have is 1GB x 2 slots just because 2GB sticks are unreasonably expensive, they may be a viable option once they come down in price.

Ah, I see. Good question, but I would think Apple wouldn't limit published RAM totals just based on the cost of a stick since people may want to upgrade in a year or two when the RAM prices come down.

Oh well, with that said, I'm not going to be the one to test 4 GB tho'

I'm guessing that the 4 gig total will work when the right chips come out on the market. I remember when my Pismo Powerbook came out and it had a max of 512. It was only because the larger chips hadn't come out yet. It still has one gig and It's still chuggin along.

Exactly. The same exact thing happened with my first generation (Blueberry) iBook. At that time Apple said the limit was 288MB with the built in 32 and a stick of 256. Later there was a firmware update and you could use a stick of 512 brining the total to 544.
