A friend of mine recently acquired of a Bondi G3 iMac with 350mhz processor. He had OS 9.0.4 on it and we installed 9.2.2. We then installed OS 10.2.3 and after everything went in successfully we rebooted and ducked back into OS 9 to delete duplicate language files and unneeded printer drivers. Everything was going fine until...

We went to the control panel, chose OS 10.2.3 startup disk and then hit restart. The screen went dark, the chime sounded normally and it sounds like it's starting to run but we have a blank screen. No blue, no gray, just black.

We've tried rebooting from the OS X disc as well as the OS 9 disc. In both cases it makes all the appropriate noises as if it's running but the screen refuses to come on.

And so what gives? We're at our wits end here trying to figure this out. And pressing the reset button accomplishes nothing either. How do we cure a blank screen?

Any help appreciated.

Okay, don't understand why, but it appears the problem was a hinky 64MB RAM card and need to update the firmware and do disk ytility. After removing the RAM on a "try anything" notion the machine started up in OS X. The display looked like hell but everything worked. We performed disk utility in OS X and then booted back into OS 9 where we did a disk utility there (to be sure) and upgraded the firmware which had come with the Jaguar install disk.

We've since booted back intto OS X and everything seems fine.

Strange.
