So I have a 12" Powerbook Rev A, and a new 15" 1.67ghz PB. I was thinking I'd cash out the 12" PB and put that into a desktop for home use. Two choices:
Someone wants to trade me for a dual 1.0 quicksilver,133Mhz bus, 1.5GB Ram, 120GB, Superdrive. Straight up, cost me zero essentially. Use with a 17" dell LCD I have (1280x1024)
Or I could sell by tricked out 12" PB for $850 or so and put it towards a new 20" iMac (Single 2Ghz, 1.5GB Ram, 250GB, Superdrive. I can get a discount on an iMac, so I could get the whole shooting match for $800 or so.

Ok, after reading this again, it's clear that the iMac is the way to go.
2 x 1ghx @ 133 FSB compared to 1 x 2Ghz @ 667Mhz: iMac wins. Big bus speed + 64 bit proc
$800 gets 20" LCD, 130 extra GB HD, AP, BT, Small form factor, Warranty, etc

The only advantage to that tower would be the extra hard drive bays and PCI slots. It can only hold 1.5 gb of RAM, and I'd be concerned about longevity at this point, since it's 3 years old. That said, the dual 1.0 is still no slouch. I use one 5 days a week at work.

The dual G4 Quicksilver tower is a fairly nice machine but it will be pretty noisy and will definitely be out-performed by the iMac. The 20" iMac widescreen will be much nicer than the 17" Dell.
I have some concerns about reliability with the G5 iMacs but it has a one year warranty and you can add Applecare for three years of coverage.

id say look into one of the latest g4s. the 1.4 duals are quite fast think they can hold up to 2 gigs of ram also. they can also be had for a pretty cheap price compared toa new imac

I'd skip the g4 tower. too noisy. the iMac is clearly the right choice. I'm looking at getting one. Apple has refurb 2.0 right now for $1399 (if they still have any left)
