It is odd a current Mac product is still shipping with an old OS. Does it need a video card update or what?

Doesn't it already? While the current ATi card doesn't support the new core features of Tiger it certainly can run Tiger.

What do you mean it doesn't support the "new core features of tiger"? I'm using a new mac mini and it came preinstalled with 10.4 runs great too!

The previous poster was referring to Core Image, which takes advantage of higher-end graphics cards.

I picked up a Mac mini for my Dad at my local CompUSA yesterday and it came with a Tiger DVD packed-in.

(On another note: I've finally got a Mac for my Dad! His Windows 2000 PC died a horrible death...I can't even read the data from his hard drive, so he's starting from scratch. Geez...I hope he likes the Mac OS...)

The only feature the mini can't take advantage of is rendering CoreImage effects in real time. So basically all it can't do is the ripple effect. Which, quite frankly, I can do without.

Well it should ship from Apple with Tiger installed, I'll let you know in a day or 2 when *MY* new Mini gets here. I ordered the 1.25 model with 512 RAM. For some reason it's in Canada. I ordered the 1.25 model because the difference between that and the faster model is small and more than likely un-noticible unless you benchmark the 2. To the eye speed wise they are most likely close. Anywho, I can't wait. Now my G3 500 ibook will have a pal!

I bought my Mac Mini (1.42mhz model) at the apple store in Northridge, CA on May 22nd. The guy helping me out told me Tiger comes pre-installed, but when I opened it up the restore discs say 10.3. There were no other discs in the box either. I took it back to the store and told them my restore discs are still panther discs, and they apologized. They then gave me a $10.77 refund (in cash) and the Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger Up-To-Date form. The $10.77 was to cover the $9.99 shipping cost + tax. I faxed my form in last friday and hopefully I get my Discs soon (I've decided not to actually set the mini up until Tiger arrives).

Well, if they are shipping with tiger preinstalled, Apple needs to update the web page. I really dont want to buy a new Mini then do a full OS install.

Just bought a 1.25 for my son tonight. Tiger drop-in, panther installed on the HD.
Paco is bitter about the loss of his .mac webpage. Image will return when his sadness lessens.
