Hi. I got my 2.7 a couple of weeks ago, and am experiencing a lot more fan noise than I think I should. I haven't generally had much load on the machine (just iTunes, Safari, etc.), but when I load a web page the fans generally rev quite loudly--enough to start drowning out music I have playing. The revving generally just lasts a couple of seconds and then calms down. Anybody have experience with this? (I'm running 10.4.1, btw.)

What have you got the processor performance set to in the Energy Saver control panel? Setting it to highest for me means the fans never ever spin up. On AAuto they spin up and down like crazy!
I free'd my mind... now it won't come back.

makes no sense, if on highest wouldnt the fan spin more often? I also notice my fans rev up a lot even when doing simple tasks, and mine is set to automatic as well... welp at least im not the only one here that has this issue.

I've noticed the same problem on my 2.7.
auto: fans spinup when opening safari (doing simple tasks)
max: the system is some what noisier, but the fans don't spinup any more when doing simple tasks.

In highest they just seem to spin at a constant speed.

Do you have a 6800 Ultra in there? If so, it's almost certain the noise you're hearing is the video card fan. It's fairly loud when it revs up. I don't think the G5 fan controls completely control the video card. The 9600 and 9800 are quieter.

Same deal on my DP2.5 GHz machine. This is a well-documented phenomenon, especially with the liquid-cooled machines.

Auto: quiet when idle, but fans rev up and down frequently (and sometimes really rev high).
Max: louder at idle then when set to auto, but the fans rev up and down less frequently (and then its usually not as high when they do).

Now, on a revision A dual 2.0GHz machine I used to have, there was virtually no audible difference between Auto and Max settings.

I just leave my machine on High now, and I've put some thin (but high-density) rubberized foam under the feet to reduce the vibrations/resonance from traveling into the wood floor my machine sits on (helps quiet it a bit further).
