Hi, again.

I thought what cause most of the freezes might be this version of Mac OS. Would Mac OS X work on my system running OS 9, 160mb ram, 333mhz, iMac G3? and will it run smoothly? Also i thought the disc i used to install OS 9 might be the wrong one. I bought my iMac off eBay. it said it comes with the OS 9 disc. i get it and its copied and its title on the Mac is 'iBook install CD'. would that mean that some of the crashes are caused by this?

cheers, kick52.

Well, there's nothing wrong with using the disc from another model, it'll install the right OS.

But if it's been a while since you installed a fresh Mac OS 9, just reinstalling a fresh OS might fix it. Mac OS X on that hardware would be very, very slow. (Mac OS X does not run well with less than 512MB of RAM.)

would that include panther? mac os x must be very memory hungry. should i upgrade the ram or should i get another mac. and if i need to get another mac, i dont have very much money (im only 12) so iam limited to a iMac G4 or an eMac.

and also would very, very slow be unusable or just a bit sluggish on doing really heavy taskes? (like proccessing dvds etc) because i know i have seen iMacs like that runnin OS X

Also, does anyone know of any animation software thats free that i can use to do stick figure animations? (like on my website: kick52.drobe.co.uk )

Mac OS X doesnt run less with 512mb ram? but the eMacs come with 256 and they run OS X... is that because they 'ave got a 1.5ghz cpu?

OS X in general really needs 512MB RAM to run at a good level. Before Tiger was released the min requirements called for 128MB RAM. The new eMacs would be a great place to start. Just add an extra 256MB RAM to the bottom end machine and you would be rolling. Just don't buy the RAM from Apple. Try some 3rd party vendor such as Crucial or Kingston.

If you trying to process DVDs and do any kind of video you are better off with something newer. The iMac 333MHz will be very slow for your needs. If you are just surfing the net and typing papers you would be fine. Anything intensive would really be pushing it.

OS 9 crashed more than any other operating system that I have used. That includes Windows 95 and 98.

I said Mac OS X doesn't run well with less than 512MB. It'll run with 256MB, but the performance is lousy. With under 256MB, the performance is horrible, it'll just drive you nuts.
