Hey so I just signed on here, looks like a good forum.

So, my question is how long should it take to copy 4GB from a DVD to my desktop? I seem to remember the process being a lot quicker. 20 minutes makes me think something's wrong. I have 20 GB of space available. I quit all applications, besides Safari and still 20 min.

More general questions:
at what point does available space become an issue? (Is the copy speed the same if I have 1 GB available or if I have 150 GB available? I remember this was an issue with OS 9.

And if one of the processors hangs, how do I know that it's hung up?

Thanks

What's the matter? 4*1024/1200 \approx 3.4 MB/s which looks ok. Not terribly fast, but ok. My dvd drive on my Linux pc maxes out at about 4.5 MB/s with DVD-Rs.

Available space becomes an issue when you run out of it If you have a gig or two to spare, it should be enough.
I don't suffer from insanity, I enjoy every minute of it.

processor speed really wont have much to do with your file transfer rates. more the less depends on what kinda drives it is and how fast it is.
