I have a slot load cd-rom on an imac DV 400. When a CD is inserted it spins, but just gets spit out after about 15 seconds or so. I was quoted $250- for a new CD unit. any ideas?

Thanks

I just bought a slot load imac g3 on ebay for 60 bucks I suggest you do the same and rip out the drive. Its cheaper then buying a new one and the machine can be parted out and sold for $$$$

I sell iMacs and iMac parts on eBay. I currently do not have any DVD drives, but I have several CD drives for slot loaders and I of course will sell you one (and they are fairly easy to install). You can find me on eBay under the user name majdadefp. I sell those drives for $35--guaranteed. $250???? you can buy a working used operational 400 with upgraded RAM and HD for those prices. . . Don't tell me ... you went to one of those big box computer store service desks . . .

I feel betrayed. I could deal with if it were a big box, but it was my local mac store. Kumbaya and all that noise. He was trying to hose me. Never intended to drop that much cash anyways. I'll drop onto ebay soon and put in a bid. Thanks for the input to all.
