Don't suppose this could be anything to do with Microsoft dumping Intel and cosying up with IBM PowerPC on the XBOX 360.

Intel probably needs some big announcements to regain the momentum - they are starting to lose out with fiascos like Itanium and lost ground to AMD.... perhaps they made Apple a deal that they could not refuse ?
